Baines Isolation Centre


ZINCAT’s first isolation centre is situated at the Baines Bed & Breakfast, 121 Baines Avenue, Harare. ZINCAT is currently looking for further sites to set-up isolation centres.



To set-up and operate centres that isolate individuals who have known or suspected exposure to the COVID-19 virus through contact or recent travel history (period of 7-14 days).


To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community by isolating potential silent carriers & to protect healthcare workers.


Healthcare professionals are in the highest risk category due high levels of exposure in their day to day work. Even if COVID does not affect the general population in the same way as other countries our health care workers are still in need of our services. We are currently in the preparedness phase of our project with the aim of being able to provide support and upscale should the need arise.

Baines BnB began receiving frontline workers from 6th May for isolation. The first being nurses from 2 hospitals that had deaths caused by COVID in recent weeks.

  • Under the state of emergency guidelines, MOHCC becomes responsible for approving health facilities. ZINCAT received formal approval from MOHCC as an isolation facility this included Infection Control Assessment and Report.

  • In order to handle the complexities of COVID, there is a huge need for upskilling of health workers. ZINCAT Clinical team (currently 2 doctors, 4 nurses and 2 nurse aids) and support staff have been trained in

    • Infection prevention control
    • surveillance and monitoring
    • facility risk management
    • COVID-19 International
    • Guidelines PPE Donning & doffing
    • Island Hospice Palliative care training
  • Catering staff have health clearance and training in psycho- social support to equip them with their roles in the isolation centre.

  • Appropriate level PPE has been allocated to all ZINCAT staff and volunteers for their safety in their roles.

  • ZINCAT is acting in a supporting role for other BnB’s, with the process and training to become quarantine centres for Zimbabweans returning from overseas.
